Last Monday was a fun day. For a day we took a break from being college students, and played games. I played scrabble with Four of my classmates, and won! (beginner's luck, you gotta love it). I was great to play games, but as we all know by now, Jimmy always has a hidden agenda. while we played the game, we also had to understand its nature and the intention behind it. As designers, we have to understand and be familiar with the product or subject in order to be able to market it or target it to our a specific audience.
The game of scrabble, as most of us know, is an educational game. This crossword puzzle game helps extend one's vocabulary, spelling, strategies, patience, visionary and creative skills. To play this game, you must be able to spell words vertically and/or horizontally. You must be able of spelling correct and official words without clashing into other words. For example if you spell diet horizontally and someone else spells time from the t of the previous word, then the next player must spell a word from either of those words without clashing into the other words. That is unless they actually spell a real word.

Clearly this teaches us, the players, vocabulary and spelling skills, but it goes beyond than those teachings. As I mentioned earlier, it also teaches you strategy. To win this game, you require the most points, and in this game the points depend on the letters you use, the words you use, and the spaces you land on. Each letter has different points, and it all depends on how they can be use. For example an X is worth 10 points, because its is very difficult to use. Where as A is worth 1 point because its much more common and easier to use. If you com bind it one word worth 5 points with a word Worth 11, you get the total points of 16 points. In addition, there are spaces in the game, like triple word score or double letter points, that can increase the value of your words. Therefore, in order to win, you must plan your word choice and the placement of your words, as well as be able to stop your opponent's' word opportunities or be able to wait for your opportunities. This of course requires visionary and patience abilities, which the game helps the player put into practice. You must use your words carefully and wisely. furthermore, it also exercises the player's ability to create patterns and ingenious methods of spelling. As mentioned, you must spell with without clashing with other words, and be able to spell other words in order to get more points.
The game also teaches memory and concentration skills. After all, this require concentration, from searching for word search to word usage, as well as having a large and small vocabulary. This game is a fun bonding game, as well as an educational one, which gives it a broad audience. from children to senior citizens ( so long as they don't eat the pieces). Making it a very marketable game. I highly recommend you to play.
